“All hail your rightful ruler, King Candy.” King Candy is the fifth installment to my Truly Evil Transformation! He’s Disney’s newest villain and probably the most non-traditional character in the collection. I fell in love with Wreck It Ralph and all the characters. I think the reason I love Candy so much is because he reminds me of the animated Mad Hatter both appearance and personality.
Candy may appear sweet, comical and pleasant but under a thin, sugary layer he is the jealous and vengeful Turbo!
“I see you’re a fan of pink.” I wanted the piece to look cute and bright like the King’s facade. (Although once I finished it I envisioned and really dramatic, dark, creepy piece instead. But it was too late.) I think the two most important versions of this villain are Turbo and the disguised King. I focused more on these two because it’s his original programing and his recoded self. The pixilation was a later thought, and I loved it! I was thinking of a way to flow from one to the other and the pixels worked perfect because that’s in a sense what he used to disguise himself. I used the cybug in the transition as well because it’s Candy’s third transformation. I didn’t want it to be too noticeable right away. I left a sketchy quality to it as homage to Disney’s classic animation that has led to the CG animation of Wreck It Ralph.
I also had to add Sour Bill because in my opinion he’s the best part of the movie. He’s got look like he almost knows something fishy’s going on.
I added the checker pattern in the background to represent the finish line on Sugar Rush. I also thought it was a subtle addition to the square/pixel patterns in the piece.
I hope you like it!
